Specialisterne USA and the Frist Center for Autism and Innovation have combined efforts to offer the Specialisterne Vanderbilt Kennedy Center WRaP (Workforce Readiness and Preparation) Online Certification courses.

The WRaP Online Facilitator Course will be developed for High School Pre-Employment Transition Services, College Career Counselors and Disability Advisors, Community Agencies, Vocational Rehabilitation offices and eventually for Small and Medium Enterprises.

The course will use Specialisterne USA’s Intellectual Property, which has been called the “Gold Standard of Neurodiversity” by Harvard University to create an online curriculum, so any provider of services for pre-employment transition will have the knowledge they need to be effective for each individual person with autism.  Included in the curriculum is job exploration counselling, integrated work-based learning experiences, post secondary programs at institutions of higher education, social skills, and self-advocacy training.

The online courses are designated as an “authorized activity” under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act by the Rehabilitation Services Agency.  This means individual states can use their Pre-Employment Transition Services budget to pay for and deliver the course.

The High School Pre-ETS WRaP Program is due to be released in Q1 2019.

From a WRaP workshop teacher after delivering the WRaP Workshop:  "I'm motivated to find ways to make my classroom emphasize the higher learning order questions (versus the lower fact/recall level of knowledge); I'm motivated to make the class more student driven, to present them with a challenge and see how they independently go about discovering a solution and dealing with setbacks; I'm more motivated to create more authentic, real world challenges and pose more authentic, real world questions. The specific elements of the month that inspired this were the checklists, the bug/debug challenge, and the use of the SCRUM and sprint in teams."
